3、 Professor Chen Zhiwu from Yale
His speech is about the relationship between personal finance and the emerging of individuality in China. Very interesting.
4、 Three panel discussion
1) How to succeed in Corporate America
- From Vice president of New York Life insurance
- From MD of a Wall Street headcount.
Basically they shared their own life stories with the alumni. Jeannie Yi talked about how she ended up in Wall Street with a PhD degree in literature. The first point she made is that you had to meet a Guiren in your life. This was how she got into the PhD program in Washington University. She met the dean of graduate school from Washington U in PKU by Lake Weiming and they talked for an hour there. At the end of the conversation, she got into the program. The second point she made is you can take your time to explore in your career. Keep your mind open. From her point of view, one should try whatever s/he can to discover one's life long interest and path from 25 to 35. from 35 to 45 one should focus in only one area and one industry. After that, from 45 to 55 is a period which she called success period. I am glad that I am still in the process of discovering myself. She also introduced one of her friend, Zhou Li, the author of the book Manhattan Women, which I just finished online. Not recommended.
2) Entrepreneurship
Four entrepreneurs from PKU alumni shared their stories of being one's own boss and balancing one's career and family. To sum up , just three words. Follow your passion.
3) Investment opportunity in Capital Market
I was really impressed by the speaker Deng Kun from an asset management firm. I've not seen such a smart man since high school....... focus smart and sophisticated.
A wonderful event. I should have attend the reception afterwards.
